GENERAL Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of the (RCCG), on Thursday while ministering at the ongoing RCCG Youth Convention, addressed the thorny issue of tithes and tithing.
Speaking on the theme, Dominion, the cleric, popularly called Daddy GO, stated categorically that tithing is scriptural.
He, however, added that the notion that a non-tither will not make it to heaven is not scriptural.
Recall that the octogenarian had been severally dragged on social media over an old video clip where he quipped that those who do not pay tithes will be heaven-bound.
Stonix News reports that tithes refer to 10 per cent of earnings of believers as stated in the book of Malachi 3:10.
Pastor Adeboye, while ministering, publicly apologised for the preaching that those who do not pay tithes will not make heaven.
He went further to aver that the act of giving 10 per cent of one’s income as tithe to God as a practice was meant for beginners in faith.
He explained that mature believers are expected to give even more as an expression of their devotion and gratitude to God.
He explained that tithing, which is giving 10 per cent of one’s income, is for beginners.
“As you grow in your faith and understanding of God’s blessings, you realise that God deserves even more,” he said.
He urged Christians to go beyond the minimum tithe and seek to live a life of greater generosity and impact, noting that blessings come from a heart willing to give, sacrificially.
Hear the exact message Adeboye quipped:
”Now let me tell you. Listen to me. You know it is possible to be right and wrong at the same time. I will prove it to you.
“I may have been a scientist, I know that. For years, we thought that light travels in straight lines.’
”Now, is that correct? At least those of you who know a little bit of Physics will say sure, but light doesn’t bend at corners, it goes straight.
“But later on we discovered that it’s not just straight at all as a rod, light travels in waves. Going one direction, but in waves.
”It is wrong to limit you to 10 per cent at a time when some of you should be paying 20 per cent, 30 per cent or 40 per cent. 10 per cent should be for beginners. Giving should be done, violently.”
