$9.8m: EFCC Loses, As Court Acquits Former NNPC GMD, Andrew Yakubu

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a case of alleged $9.8 million money laundering case against former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Ahmed Mohammed on Thursday, the Court said the prosecution, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt to result in the conviction of the former NNPC boss.

Stonix News reports that EFCC had, in 2017, following a raid, uncovered $9,772, 800 and £74, 000 cash in a safe at his Kaduna residence.

Justice Mohammed also ordered the refund of the said money lodged in the coffers of the CBN to be returned, forthwith.
