How Two Drowned, Others Injured When Bus Rammed Third Mainland Bridge Rails

Details have emerged on how two passengers drowned and others were injured when a yellow commercial bus rammed into the rails of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Wednesday morning.

It was gathered that the vehicle, an LT 18-seater bus with registration number FKJ 872 YA, was driving at a very high speed when it swerved off the road and threw the passengers into the lagoon.

The accident according to reports, occurred by Adeniyi Adele’s axis inward of Lagos Island.

In a 1:25 seconds video posted on X by one of the passengers of the bus identified as Aproko Nurse said that yellow buses, (referring to Lagos buses) were unfit to plough the road and that the accident was caused by a bad tyre.

“The bus I entered had an accident on 3rd mainland bridge this morning, one person is missing in the water,the front tyre of the bus caused it, these yellow buses are unfit to plough the road,risking people’s lives,I thank God for our lives,i pray the missing person will be found,” he tweeted.

In the video, a man was seen cursing at reckless drivers.

The angry man said in pidgin, “All these drivers, na God go punish them one by one. make they dey lock door they no go hear. They go dey open door dey drive.”

The Marine Police were seen frantically searching for the victims in the video.

Reacting to the post under the comment section one @Deji TheBootMan commented thus: “As public transportation buses, they are supposed to be held to much higher standards, but you’ll never see them at VIO inspection centres, rubbish.

Another X user, @Ekun Wole said: It is private cars VIO and FRSC harass. They just collect bribe from the actual culprits and let them go

Meanwhile, the Southwest Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye said the crashed vehicle had been towed to Adeniji Adele police station.

He added that the other injured passengers had been rushed to the hospital.
