‘Bring Her Here’: Indian Man Exhumes Sister’s Skeleton In Bizarre Bank Battle Over £6,800

ODISHA – In a desperate and macabre attempt to unlock a deceased relative’s savings, a man from Odisha has exhumed his sister’s remains and carried her skeleton into a bank branch, sparking fury over bureaucratic callousness.

According to local police reports seen by Stonix News, the man had been trying to access 720,000 Indian rupees (approximately £6,800) from his late sister’s account following her death several months prior.

However, bank officials allegedly refused the withdrawal on the grounds that “the account holder must be physically present” to authorise the transaction. Despite presenting verbal explanations and, reportedly, a death certificate, the grieving brother’s repeated pleas were dismissed as insufficient.

In a scene that has left the nation horrified, the man is said to have returned to his sister’s grave, exhumed her skeletal remains, and transported them directly to the bank. He reportedly presented the bones to a stunned cashier as proof that the account holder could not, under any circumstances, attend in person.

‘Rigidity with a human cost’

The incident has ignited a fierce debate across social media, with many questioning how a financial institution could fail to process a standard bereavement claim.

Observers note that typical verification processes—such as a probate letter, legal heir certificate, or notarised death documentation—should have sufficed.

“This isn’t just a story about an unstable individual. It is a story about systemic failure,” one legal commentator wrote. “When a bank’s rigidity drives a man to desecrate his own sister’s grave, the system has lost all humanity.”

Local authorities have since launched an inquiry into the bank’s conduct, while the man remains in police custody pending psychological assessment. No formal charges have been filed as of Tuesday evening.

A spokesperson for the bank declined to comment on individual cases but stated that internal procedures are “under urgent review.”
