UNIVERSAL’S Michael opened at number one on the UK and Ireland box office with £11.6 million ($15.6 million), according to Comscore, delivering one of the strongest debuts of the year in the territory.
The studio also held second place with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which added £1.4 million in its fourth weekend, reaching a total of £46.5 million.
Project Hail Mary, distributed by Sony, placed third, taking £1.1 million in its sixth week for a cumulative £43.1 million. Entertainment Film Distributors’ The Drama followed in fourth with £682,000, lifting its total to £12.4 million.
Warner Bros.’ Lee Cronin’s The Mummy rounded out the top five, adding £485,000 in its second weekend to reach £2.4 million.
Further down the chart, Entertainment Film Distributors’ The Magic Faraway Tree placed sixth with £459,000, bringing its cumulative to £18.7 million.
Among new entries, BFI Distribution’s Rose of Nevada debuted in seventh with £232,000, followed by Vertigo Releasing’s Exit 8 in eighth with £190,000. Disney’s 4K reissue of Fight Club opened ninth with £133,000.
Rounding out the top ten, Trafalgar Releasing’s The Magic Flute – ROH, London 2026 (Opera) added £118,000 in its opening weekend, bringing its cumulative to £596,000.
Looking ahead
Disney’s The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to lead the upcoming frame as the primary studio release. Black Bear’s wide horror title Hokum, starring Adam Scott, also rolls out across 300 locations, while Sony brings anime feature That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Tears of the Azure Sea to cinemas.
Event cinema remains a key component, with Trafalgar Releasing presenting Power to the People: John & Yoko Live in NYC and Eugene Onegin – Met Opera 2026 (Opera). MusicFilmNetwork adds documentary Di’Anno – Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer, while Underground Slate opens Searching for Satyrus at the start of the week.
The speciality and international market is active. Conic releases Wild Foxes, Verve Pictures debuts Ada – My Mother the Architect, and Bulldog Film Distribution launches I’ve Seen All I Need to See. Vertigo Releasing marks the 20th anniversary of Slither with a 4K restoration, while Studiocanal brings Highlander back for its 40th anniversary, and Bakrania Media releases Gujarati-language drama Dhabkaaro.
