SIX people, including a baby, lost their lives on Monday in a fatal accident at Ibeju Bus Stop along the Lekki–Epe Expressway, Lagos.
Nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The crash, involving a blue Volvo FL6 truck loaded with wooden planks and a white commercial bus (registration number AKD 336 YD), was attributed to excessive speeding and reckless driving.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the deceased comprised two men, three women, and one child.
Four passengers escaped unhurt.
Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, said emergency responders swiftly conveyed the injured—three men and six women—to the Federal Medical Centre, Epe, and Hammond Hospital for urgent care.
The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FMC morgue for identification.
Taofiq explained that the rescue operation was carried out by LASTMA in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and warned motorists against reckless driving.

He stressed: “Speed thrills, but ultimately kills.”
Bakare-Oki urged drivers to exercise patience, discipline, and defensive driving, especially during the Ember Months, a period known for increased vehicular movement and road crashes.
FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, Kehinde Hamzat, who also confirmed the incident, cautioned motorists to desist from overspeeding and other traffic violations to prevent avoidable tragedies.
