Bloody Blow As Nigerian Forces Thwart Coordinated Terrorist Attacks in North-East

NIGERIAN military forces have successfully repelled a major coordinated offensive by terrorist groups across multiple locations in north-eastern Nigeria, dealing what authorities describe as a “heavy decisive and bloody blow” to the insurgents.

The attacks occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 23rd October 2025, with simultaneous assaults launched against military positions in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko across Borno and Yobe states.

Between midnight and 4 a.m., troops of Operation HADIN KAI engaged the attackers in intense fighting, ultimately defeating the coordinated assault.

Military officials reported that the defence was significantly enhanced by air support from the Air Component Command, with precision airstrikes and improved battlefield intelligence providing crucial advantages to ground forces.

This combined approach enabled what the military termed an “overwhelming and lethal” response to the terrorist offensive.

The engagement resulted in substantial losses for the terrorist groups, with over 50 combatants neutralised and more than 70 wounded fighters currently being pursued by joint ground and air operations.

The military also captured significant weaponry, including 38 AK-47 rifles, multiple machine guns, RPG tubes, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Intelligence assessments indicate the attackers originated from cross-border positions in Cameroon and from the known terrorist stronghold of Timbuktu Triangle.

While the operation proved successful, the military acknowledged some troops were wounded during the engagement, though all are reported to be in stable condition.

The conflict also resulted in damage to military vehicles and structures, particularly in Mafa and Dikwa, where defences were temporarily breached by terrorist drone and RPG attacks.

The Military High Command has praised the performance of troops, noting that their success demonstrates the military’s strengthened capacity to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity, particularly with recent reinforcements of personnel and combat equipment to the region.
