Anambra Snatches 10 Oil Wells From Delta Following Boundary Resolution

ANAMBRA State has officially acquired 10 oil wells previously attributed to Delta State, following the resolution of a protracted inter-state boundary dispute, Stonix News reports.

The long-standing disagreement over territorial jurisdiction had led to the wells being credited to Delta State in official records.

However, a verification exercise conducted by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has now confirmed that the assets rightfully belong to Anambra.

According to Professor Charles Ofoegbu, Managing Director of the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company and Chairman of Anambra State Petroleum Energy Resources Limited, the state stands to benefit financially once the report is formally ratified.

“Once the report receives official approval, Anambra will begin receiving revenue from the oil wells located along its maritime boundary with Delta State, thereby increasing the state’s 13 per cent oil derivation revenue from the Federal Government allocation,” Professor Ofoegbu stated.

In a strategic move to maximise the economic potential of the newly acquired assets, the state government is planning to establish a modular refinery in Osamala, located in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Professor Ofoegbu noted that the facility is expected to refine petroleum products such as diesel, generate employment opportunities, and catalyse broader economic growth across the region.

The development marks a significant milestone in Anambra’s quest to expand its resource base and is being hailed as a transformative step toward boosting the state’s economy and long-term development prospects.
