IN a bid to drive technological innovation and strengthen the energy sector, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has signed the Osun State Electricity Market Bill and the domesticated Nigerian Startup Act into law.
Speaking shortly after the signing ceremony in Osogbo on Thursday, the Governor described the occasion as a major milestone in the state’s pursuit of sustainable development, digital transformation and private sector–led economic growth.
He noted that Osun was fast emerging as a hub for investment, innovation and opportunity, adding that his administration was focused not only on infrastructural development but also on empowering the digital economy and diversifying the power sector.
According to him, “I warmly welcome everyone to this bill signing ceremony, alongside the Osun Tech Hangout — the first of its kind in our dear state. I am glad to assert that Osun is rapidly emerging as a hub for investment, innovation and opportunity.
“Our administration is not only building roads and bridges; we are advancing technological innovation and digital empowerment. We are opening up the electricity sector to investment and improved consumer satisfaction. Under our watch, Osun is becoming a leader in environmental sustainability, tech innovation and energy diversification.
“I have signed into law the Osun State Electricity Market Bill. This is a landmark step towards subnational management and expansion of the power sector. The Ministry of Energy has been directed to establish an implementation mechanism without delay.
“A similar legal framework has now been provided for the empowerment of tech entrepreneurs in Osun State. Today, I signed into law the Nigerian Startup Act, domesticating the national legislation. Osun now joins one or two other states that have already domesticated the Act. Implementation will commence immediately.”
Earlier in his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation, Science, Technology and Digital Economy, Azeez Badmus, commended the Governor for creating a thriving environment for startups and innovators through structured support systems.
He said, “I want to thank the Governor for building an environment where startups and innovators can thrive. They are supported with guidance, mentorship and resources to succeed across Osun.”
