The Delta State Police Command has begun an intensive investigation into the killing of retired High Court judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, who was found dead in her Asaba residence on 24 November.
Police reports confirm that the alarm was raised by her brother, who visited the house and discovered her body in the sitting room.
Her hands, legs, and mouth were reportedly bound.
Officers from ‘A’ Division, Asaba, responded immediately, moving the body to the mortuary for autopsy.
The Command has arrested one suspect, Lucky Matthew, while the principal suspect, identified as Godwin Vanem, remains at large.
According to SP Bright Edafe, image maker of the command, preliminary findings indicate that Vanem is strongly suspected of carrying out the attack before fleeing.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (Homicide Section) for a discreet and comprehensive probe.
A manhunt is currently underway to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
CP Abaniwonda has extended his condolences to the family of the late Justice Okogwu, assuring them that the Command is fully committed to ensuring justice is served.
