AHEAD of the 2023 general elections, practising journalists in Delta State have been enjoined to concentrate their news reportage on issues that unite Deltans rather than issues that divide the people of the state.
The Honourable Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu made this known on Wednesday at the 2022 Annual NUJ Press Week Lectures/Award Ceremony, held at the prestigious Casa De Pedro Hotel, Refinery Road, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area.
The commissioner was represented by the permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mr Paul Osahon.
He lauded the working synergy between the state government under the leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and journalists in the state.
He said the state government was poised in ensuring a conducive atmosphere for practitioners of the Pen Profession in the discharge of their lawful duties.
The State Information Commissioner also urged politicians in the stateto concentrate their campaigns on issues-based subjects to win the minds of the electorate rather than indulging in campaigns that could be inimical to the peaceful co-existence of the state.
He stressed that elections should not be seen as a do-or-die affair.
Aniagwu congratulated the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel for a successful Press Week with the theme “2023 General Elections and Security challenges,” which he described as very timely.
