THE victory of the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri, in the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa State, was largely orchestrated by his wide acceptance among all ethnic nationalities in Bayelsa.
His victory was also attributed to the faith, trust and confidence people of the state reposed in him..
These were the views of the chairman of De Wayles Group of Companies, High Chief Emonena Victor Wayles Egukawhore, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the incumbent Governor winner on Monday afternoon.
He congratulated Governor Diri on his re-election for a second term.
High Chief Egukawhore further affirmed that Diri’s victory did not come as a surprise.
According to him, it was a clear attestation of the faith, trust and confidence the people of Bayelsa reposed on him.
“On behalf of myself and my family, I join the Grassroots Movement for Good Governance to congratulate and salute Senator Duoye Diri on his re-election as the executive governor of Bayelsa State.
“Your victory at the polls did not come as a surprise and it is a clear attestation of the faith, trust and confidence the people of Bayelsa State repose on you on account of your accomplishments in the last four years.
“Little wonder that you garnered wide acceptance and support across ethnic and political divides as the preferred anointed choice to continue to sparehead the prosperity agenda for the people of Bayelsa, the Ijaw nation and Nigeria in general,” the Chief enthused.
Recall that Diri was on Monday declared winner by INEC’s returning officer in the state, Prof Faruq Kuta, with the majority of votes spread across the local government areas.
According to Professor Kuta, Diri, who came into power in 2020, got a total of 175,196 votes while Sylva polled 110,108 votes.
The figures meant the PDP flagbearer overwhelmed his closest rival by 65, 088 votes.
The Labour Party (LP) scored a total of 905 votes to come a distant third in a fierce contest of 18 candidates of which Sylva was Diri’s main contender.
