EFCC Arrests Two Chinese, Others For Illegal Mining In Ilorin

OPERATIVES of the Ilorin Zonal Police Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested two Chinese and two others for illegal mining activities in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The suspects, Xiao Yi, 50 and Duan Yahong, 52, were arrested on Sunday alongside two Nigerians, Mumini Jamiu and Israel Nwachukwu, who were suspected to be accomplices in the illegal business.

Jamiu, the driver, was apprehended while transporting a truck full of solid minerals from Banni in Kwara State’s Kaiama Local Government Area to a Chinese firm in Lagos without a lawful permit.

According to the post made on the official Facebook page of the commission, the suspects were trailed to their mining sites located at Isolo in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State, where they were arrested on Sunday, February 18, 2024, after days of surveillance by the EFCC operatives.

In addition to this arrest, the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC has now detained 48 suspects for alleged illegal mining activities within the last two weeks, the post revealed.

Items recovered from the suspects included a truck with Registration Number JJJ 386 XT containing substances suspected to be solid minerals, phones, and travel documents.

The suspects would be arraigned in court soon, it was stated.
