THE Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, has expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences over the death of Mr Afolabi Peace, a seasoned university administrator and dedicated member of the FUL community who, until his death, served as the Deputy Registrar, Distance and E-Learning.
Mr Afolabi served the University in various capacities across different administrative units, including the University Council Secretariat, demonstrating commitment, professionalism and dedication to the advancement of the institution.
Throughout his career, he contributed meaningfully to the effective administration and development of the University, leaving an enduring impression on colleagues and the wider University community.
Anti-Corruption Campaign Role Recalled
Among his notable recent assignments was his involvement in the University’s anti-corruption campaign against gender-based violence and sexual harassment, a three-day sensitisation programme organised for the University’s workforce.
He played a significant role in ensuring the successful coordination and execution of the programme, reflecting his commitment to promoting a safe, respectful, ethical and inclusive institutional environment.
In a condolence message, the Vice-Chancellor described the deceased as a committed university administrator, a dependable colleague and a gentleman whose years of service and contributions to the University would remain memorable to those who had the privilege of working with him.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the deceased’s service across various units of the University demonstrated his versatility, administrative experience and commitment to institutional responsibilities.
‘A Painful Loss’
Professor Ibileye said: “The death of Mr Peace is a painful loss to his family, colleagues, the Institute of Gender Studies, and the entire Federal University Lokoja community.
“His contributions to the University, including his role in advancing awareness and sensitisation against gender-based violence and sexual harassment, will remain part of the memories of his service to this institution.
“He will be sorely missed by his colleagues and all who had the privilege of working with him. On behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff, and students of Federal University Lokoja, I extend our deepest condolences to his mother and the entire family. We pray that Almighty God will grant them the strength, comfort, and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss, and grant the departed eternal rest.”
Federal University Lokoja joins the family, colleagues and the entire University community in honouring the memory of Mr Afolabi Peace, whose service and contributions will not be forgotten.
