President Muhammadu Buhari Joins World Leaders, Mourn Pele

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined world leaders and footballers to mourn the 82-year-old Brazil football legend, Pele, who died on Thursday 29th of December, after a battle with colon cancer.

President Muhammadu Buhari, through his aide, Garba Shehu , described the footballer as one whom the world will never forget, for his contributions to the game.

As contained in the official statement, Pele, a former UN Ambassador was also regarded, by the President , as the greatest sportsman, who built bridges across nations, races and even religions.

Part of the statement reads;

“May he rest in peace. He led a good life and made a huge contribution to the development of global football in particular and world sport in general.

“He had an enormous generousity of spirit and humility despite his greatness as a footballer and sportsman.

“He also built bridges across nations, races and even religions. He was a UN Ambassador of goodwill. Pele is gone but the world will never forget him. RIP. “
