THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticised Tanimu Turaki, the newly-declared factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), over his call for foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria’s affairs, describing the statement as “reckless, unpatriotic, and a dangerous threat to national security”.
Turaki, who addressed journalists in Abuja on Tuesday amid escalating tensions within the PDP, claimed that Nigeria required external intervention to halt what he termed “Christian genocide” and to protect the country’s democracy.
His remarks have drawn swift backlash from the ruling party, which accused him of attempting to internationalise the PDP’s internal crisis.
In a strongly worded statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said Turaki’s position betrayed desperation and an inability to manage the factional disputes tearing his party apart.

“For a man declared National Chairman barely 72 hours ago by a faction of his deeply fractured party, Turaki looked and sounded desperate, confused, incoherent, and grossly lacking the stamina and capacity to manage his party’s crisis,” the statement read.
The APC argued that Nigerians had expected Turaki’s first major move to be geared towards reconciliation and peace-building within the PDP.
Instead, it said, he “shamelessly opted to call for foreign invasion of Nigeria”, a move the ruling party described as unprecedented and dangerous.
The statement added that even during the PDP’s 16-year rule—during which, according to the APC, “opposition parties experienced ruthless subversion”—no party leader ever suggested foreign invasion as a solution to internal political disputes.
“Turaki’s call is not only an admission of the party’s incapacity to manage its internal contradictions, it must be taken as a final certification of the PDP’s demise,” the APC said.
The party urged the international community to reject what it termed a “disgraceful and unpatriotic” distraction, insisting that the opposition’s desperation had reached alarming levels.
“It is now clear that some opposition leaders are willing to go as far as inviting destructive intervention by foreign powers onto Nigerian soil to advance their sinister political agenda,” the statement continued.
The APC called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for the ruling party and for President Bola Tinubu, whom it credited with leading ongoing efforts to build “progress and prosperity” across the country.
