OPERATIVES of the Nigeria Police have arrested a member of the House of Representatives and campaigner of Atiku Abubakar, Dr. Chinyere Igwe, with $500,000 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Igwe represents Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2, but was nabbed on Friday during a police stop-and-search operation along Aba Road.
Stonix News reports that Igwe is a supporter of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who has been at loggerheads with Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.
He was said to have been given the money to allegedly bribe some people to favour a candidate in Saturday’s election.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Rivers Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest.
She said: “a statement on it will be released soon.”
