Chevron Reaffirms Commitment To Nigeria’s Energy Future During Ministerial Visit

CHEVRON Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the joint venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and CNL – the NNPCL/CNL JV – has reaffirmed its commitment to the growth and development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

CNL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Jim Swartz, made this known during the visit of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and his delegation to CNL’s operational hub in Escravos, Delta State.

Swartz noted that Chevron is proud of its continuous investment in Nigeria for over 60 years and highlighted CNL’s contributions to the country’s economic development through its joint venture with NNPCL, as well as its interests in both onshore and offshore assets across the Niger Delta.

He emphasised that at the core of CNL’s operations is the “Chevron Way”, which outlines the company’s core beliefs, values, and purpose – focusing on delivering affordable, reliable, and ever-cleaner energy, promoting human ingenuity to solve energy challenges, and operating with trust, integrity, and accountability.

“We are proud to be aligned with the initiatives and aspirations of the Federal Government of Nigeria for the development of the oil and gas industry.

“These include the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, the presidential directives reforming the sector, the Decade of Gas initiative, and the building of indigenous capacity through Nigerian content development,” he said.

Swartz expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the Minister of State for their commendable leadership in repositioning Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

He reiterated Chevron’s commitment to helping unlock Nigeria’s full energy potential and delivering lasting value to its people.

Also speaking, CNL’s Director, NNPCL JV, Mr Segun Kuteyi, highlighted the company’s “North Star” strategy, which aims to enhance base business performance, monetise existing gas resources, and grow crude oil production in line with the aspirations of the Federal Government.

He outlined recent milestones achieved by CNL, including the conversion of legacy JV leases under the PIA, renewal of deepwater leases, and the discovery of new oil fields such as Meji NW-1.

The Minister was taken through presentations showcasing Chevron’s integrated operations in Escravos, from upstream assets in the swamp, shallow waters, and deep offshore, to midstream operations at the Escravos Gas Plant and Escravos Gas-to-Liquids facility.

The presentations also covered the West African Gas Pipeline, which supports domestic power generation, fertiliser production, and regional energy security.

In addition, CNL’s significant socio-economic contributions to local communities – including community contracts and employment generation – were highlighted.

Senator Lokpobiri commended CNL for its strong commitment to Nigeria’s development, noting that Chevron is the only international oil company (IOC) that has remained active in the swamp and shallow water areas of the Niger Delta while others have divested.

He praised the company’s integrity in engaging with host communities and its provision of contracts and employment opportunities for local people.

The Minister thanked Chevron for being a pacesetter among IOCs and lauded its use of technology in operations, particularly for security surveillance and monitoring. The visit concluded with a tour of CNL’s oil and gas facilities.
