DELSU Rusticates Student Over Viral TikTok Video

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

THE Delta State University (DELSU) has taken a severe step of rustication against a second-year Biotechnology student over a viral TikTok video of a dying colleague.

The student, identified as Ezi Ugoma filmed a dying student who allegedly had abortion complications at the University Health Centre and uploaded the footage on TikTok.

The school made this known in a letter dated 21st October 2025, signed by the Principal Assistant Registrar (Students), Ughwumiakpor A, on behalf of the Deputy Registrar (Students).

The letter stated that Ugoma had been found guilty of “gross misconduct” and of breaching her matriculation oath by recording and sharing the distressing video.

According to reports, the letter was drafted after a hearing before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee (SDC) which was held across three days in August — Thursday 21, Friday 22 and Monday 25.

This was done as part of due process to allow the student to defend herself.

The university stated that the committee considered the evidence and recommended her rustication.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Asagba, approved the committee’s recommendation that Ugoma be rusticated for four semesters, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session; and she will only be eligible to resume in 2027/2028.

The letter read in part: “You will recall that you appeared before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee (SDC) held on Thursday 21st, Friday 22nd, and Monday 25th August, 2025, to defend yourself against the allegation of gross misconduct — a breach of your matriculation oath arising from the inappropriate filming of a dying student at the University Health Centre on TikTok.
