Environmental Sanitation: Warri South Apprehends 75 Offenders

Ola Kiya, Reporting

No fewer than 75 persons were, on Saturday, apprehended for violating the Delta State monthly environmental exercise by officials of the Warri South Local Government Area.

This is in line with strict enforcement of restriction of movement while ensuring residents comply by cleaning their environment.

The 75 persons, according to Mr Omawumi Elete, the Council’s Supervisor for Environment, were apprehended and restricted till the stipulated time was over.

He said the violators were also made to carry out community service by clearing grass around the council.

Mr Elete said that the exercise was meant to scale up the directive of the state government and the drive of the chairman of Warri South to ensure that the local government is clean.

Mrs Stella Mode, Head of Department of Environment, who monitored the exercise, stated that the exercise was successful.

According to her, the awareness was created and those caught flouting the sanitation were restricted and warned, accordingly.

Justice Afor, Zonal Commander, Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps, commended the local government chairman for involving them in monitoring the sanitation exercise, just as he also pledged their continuous support to the council.

Stonix News recalled that the Warri South chair, Dr Michael Tidi, had vowed not to spear those found disobeying environmental laws in the state.

He had added that those found disposing waste indiscriminately would be prosecuted according to the law.
