Farouk Ahmed Disowns ‘Purported’ Statement on Allegations, Backs Formal Probe

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

THE Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr Farouk Ahmed, has distanced himself from a statement circulating in the public domain and attributed to him in response to recent allegations against his person and family.

In a disclaimer issued on Tuesday, Ahmed described the statement as false, stressing that it did not originate from him.

“My attention has been drawn to a purported response I was said to have made on the recent allegations against my person. I hereby state categorically that the so-called statement did not emanate from me,” he said.

While acknowledging the “wild and spurious allegations” and the public frenzy they have generated, the NMDPRA chief explained that he had deliberately refrained from engaging in public exchanges due to the sensitive nature of the industry he regulates.

“As a regulator of a sensitive industry, I have opted not to engage in public brickbat,” Ahmed stated.

He, however, welcomed the decision by the accuser to take the matter before a formal investigative institution, expressing confidence that due process would allow for an objective review of the issues.

“Thankfully, the person behind the allegations has taken it to a formal investigative institution. I believe that would provide an opportunity to dispassionately distil the issues and to clear my name,” he added.

Ahmed reaffirmed his commitment to due process and accountability, noting that he would allow the appropriate authorities to handle the matter in line with established procedures.
