THE Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 15 July 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
This was announced on Monday in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Interior and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
The declaration follows the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in continuation of the seven-day national mourning declared after Buhari’s passing.
The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the holiday is a mark of respect for Buhari’s dedicated service to Nigeria, his contributions to the country’s democratic journey, and his legacy in national development.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” the Minister stated.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to use the day to honour Buhari’s memory by promoting peace, patriotism, and national unity, in alignment with the late President’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria.
As earlier announced, national flags are to be flown at half-mast throughout the seven-day mourning period, which began on Sunday, 13 July 2025.
The Federal Government extended its condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful repose of the late President’s soul.
