How Governor Ademola Adeleke clinched the Accord Party’s governorship ticket for the 2026 Osun poll became clear on Wednesday after a smooth and largely uncontested primary, held barely a day after his dramatic defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A total of 150 delegates were accredited for the exercise at the OASIS Event Centre, Osogbo, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) present to observe the process.
Stonix News reported that Adeleke had formally joined the Accord Party just 24 hours prior to the gubernatorial primary.
Announcing the results, the Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, disclosed that five ballot papers were voided, while Adeleke secured all 145 valid votes cast.
“The electoral committee has delivered on its mandate. Voting and counting were duly witnessed by agents of the candidate and INEC officials. Having polled the highest number of votes, I declare Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the primary,” Salaudeen stated.
Presenting the Certificate of Return and handing over the party flag, the National Chairman of Accord, Maxwell Ngbudem, said: “On behalf of the National Working Committee and the entire Accord family, I hereby present this certificate of return to Your Excellency and hand you this flag to raise on our behalf in the forthcoming Osun governorship election.”
In his acceptance speech, Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude to the delegates and party leadership.
“It is with a deep sense of appreciation to the delegates and Almighty God that I accept my nomination and election as the governorship candidate of Accord for the 2026 governorship elections.
“I convey my heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of our great party and delegates from across the 332 wards of Osun State. The confidence you repose in me is deeply appreciated, and I assure you it will not be taken for granted.
“We are today launching the battle for continuity—continuity of progress, good governance, and democratic dividends. My candidacy signals the sustenance of the golden movement when the light of development continues to shine across our state. We vow never to relent in delivering rewarding service to our people,” he said.
