A 21-year-old lady, Sukura Owodunni, has reportedly caught fire during a deliverance session conducted on her by one Pastor Taiwo Odebiyi of the Cherubim & Seraphim, Maberu Parish, in Offin, Sagamu, Ogun State.
Stonix News recalled that Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries had, in a video that went viral on social media in June, explained why he doesn’t like white garment churches.
In the said video, he has said: “Do you know why I hate white garment churches, people don’t know why I hate them. If you know what they, do you will never like them. They can take your surname and put it inside a bottle of gin and make incantations.
“That’s how they do it. All these yeye prophets. They will take the name of somebody and put it inside the local gin and read all those demonic Psalms in it,” Ibiyeomie added.
Perhaps justifying the claim of the pastor which caused a lot of stir, Sukura was said to have visited on August 17, 2023, in response to the pastor’s invitation for a special prayer session.
Pastor Odebiyi reportedly instructed the young woman to buy ‘prayer’ items which included: Amazing Grace Perfume, local chicken eggs, and candle, among others.
It was gathered that during the prayer session, the cleric purportedly sprayed the perfume on Sukura’s body and struck a match on the candle.
No sooner he candle was lit than Owodunni’s body caught fire, resulting in severe burns to her chest, shoulders, and legs.
An eyewitness told The Punch that Pastor Odebiyi, was, thereafter, arrested by the Divisional Police Officer in Adigbe, CSP Abdulfattah Ogunsanya, and his team.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident said the victim was receiving medical treatment for her burns.
“Our men have arrested the suspect. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department after the preliminary investigation is perfected,” she told The Punch.
