JUST IN: Behold The New CAN President!

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

KANO-born Most Rev. Daniel Okoh has emerged as the new president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

He’s the 8th CAN president and perhaps the first to have emerged from northern Nigeria in recent history.

CAN’s spokesman, Joseph Daramola, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.

Stonix News reports that Okoh is the General Superintendent of Christ Holy Church, also known as Nation Builders (Odozi-Obodo).

Rev. Okon is coming in at a time there’s so much religious disharmony across the country and unremitting persecution, killing and kidnapping of Christian clerics especially from the Catholic faith.

It is expected that the new leadership of CAN will take measures to help safeguard Christians in the country and reduce religious tensions.

Stonix News reports that CAN is made up of five blocs: Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN)/Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), (TEKAN and ECWA Fellowship).

The association is scheduled to hold its general assembly on July 27 which would usher in the new administration.

Recall that the outgoing president, Rev. Samson Olasupo Adeniyi Ayokunle, popularly called Supo Ayokunle is a Nigerian pastor and administrator who has been vocal on sociopolitical issues affecting the country.
