PDP dismisses Oghenesivbe’s ‘shadows’ claim as a ‘political joke’ – warns 2027 will be different

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

THE Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a blistering attack on the State Orientation Bureau’s Director General, Barr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, describing his assertion that opposition parties are “staying in the shadows” as a political joke taken too far.

In a press release signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Kingsley Akpos Oturubo, the PDP accused Mr Oghenesivbe of living in a “political fantasy” and a “pool of fools’ paradise”, adding that his views were coloured by the Government’s largesse rather than the grim reality faced by ordinary Deltans.

“We know that the likes of Oghenesivbe are always ensconcing in the pool of fools’ paradise, having enjoyed the Government’s largesse, thinking that what they enjoyed at the Government’s circle trickles down to pauperised people,” the statement read.

The PDP took aim at the administration of Governor Oborevwori, alleging that despite the Governor’s boast of a bulging state purse, Delta remains one of the poorest states in the country.

The party pointed to a near‑total absence of power generation, which it said had created an “unfriendly business atmosphere” and driven away potential investors.

“Neighbouring states have taken advantage of the constitutional amendment that transferred electricity to the concurrent list to build independent power plants, which have hitherto given them steady power supply,” the party noted.

Contrasting the current government’s record with past PDP administrations, the party claimed that job creation, care for the aged and indigent persons had once been top priorities, whereas the present government had centred its “phantom performance” on three overestimated flyovers in a single local government area.

Turning to the 2027 elections, the PDP warned that no amount of “vainglorious ego boasting” would win the hearts of Deltans. “Oghenesivbe should have been taught by the bitter history of the past,” the statement said. “The greatest danger in war is when a camp believes so strongly in its vainglorious ego. Deltans have taught these persons a bitter lesson in the past. 2027 is not going to be different.”

The party also dismissed suggestions of internal discord, insisting that the PDP was united and that the Supreme Court verdict had validated the Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed‑led National Working Committee. “There is no faction,” Chief Oturubo declared. “Can someone parade himself a factional leader in a political party where such a faction is not in the INEC database?”

The PDP further criticised Mr Oghenesivbe – a lawyer and a PhD holder – for failing to abide by the Electoral Act 2026 and the 1999 Constitution in his public remarks. “He ought to have been guided by the operation of the laws,” the party said.

Reaffirming the PDP’s confidence, the statement concluded: “Oghenesivbe and his group of followers can use phantom propaganda to launder his battered government image; the reality is that Deltans will judge us right at the polls. We shall see who will laugh last.”

The party reiterated that Deltans had not defected to the APC and remained firmly with the PDP, adding that the 2027 election would once again lay bare the feelings of both the rulers and the governed.
