LIRS Grants Final Deadline Extension For Tax Filings Amid Surge In eTax Platform Traffic

Blessing Bello, Reporting

LAGOS — The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced a further extension to the filing deadline for individual annual income tax returns, moving the cut-off date to April 21, 2026, in response to what it described as an “overwhelming response” from compliant taxpayers.

The Agency had previously granted an extension to April 14, 2026, but noted a significant increase in traffic on its eTax platform as more citizens rushed to meet their obligations.

In a statement released on Saturday, the LIRS said the additional one-week grace period is designed to ensure that all taxpayers have adequate opportunity to complete their submissions without technical impediments.

“This additional extension is granted in consideration of the overwhelming response and to enhance taxpayer convenience, while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of submissions,” the statement read.

The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, reiterated that all filings must be completed electronically via the LIRS eTax platform — https://etax.lirs.net — which remains the only approved channel for submission.

“Taxpayers are reminded that the filing of annual income tax returns remains a statutory obligation and are encouraged to take advantage of this final extension to fulfil their civic responsibility,” the Agency added.

The LIRS expressed sincere appreciation to taxpayers for their continued compliance and commitment, urging anyone requiring assistance to visit any LIRS office or contact the Agency through its official communication channels.

The announcement was signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, Head of Corporate Communications at LIRS. The Agency has stressed that no further extensions will be granted beyond April 21.
