LAFIA – The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has launched a scathing attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing its elected officials of “gross negligence” over the perilous state of the Keffi-Nasarawa-Toto Road.
In a strongly-worded statement released on Sunday, the PDP, led by Alhaji Adamu Bako Ninga, drew the attention of the Federal Government and the public to what it termed a “monumental disgrace,” alleging that the road has become a death trap that is “claiming lives, destroying properties, and crippling economic activities.”
The party singled out Senator Aliyu Wadada, who represents Nasarawa West at the National Assembly, for particular criticism. It claimed that while Senator Wadada and other APC officials were “desperately pursuing their personal interests,” the vital road linking their constituents continues to bring “nightmare to dozens.”
“The PDP has repeatedly drawn the attention of the Honourable Member representing Nasarawa/Toto in the House of Representatives and the Senator representing Nasarawa West but realises that their main interest is already deeply sunk into the next general election,” the statement read, accusing them of being indifferent to whether “the people survive or not.”
The party’s Press Secretary, Jonathan Ipaa, who signed the release, stated that it was “regrettable” that both Senator Wadada and the APC appeared “less concerned” about the situation, despite ongoing cries from their constituents.
The statement framed the dilapidated road as a direct reflection of “a failed representation” by the ruling party and the state governor. “Leadership is a trust, not a title,” it asserted, urging the public to “demand accountability” from those they elected.
Taking a further jab at Senator Wadada, the PDP questioned his influence, stating, “Sen Wadada who claims to be closer to the president and the power in Abuja should have championed the repairs and rehabilitation of this critical road.”
The opposition party concluded with a firm warning to the APC, stating that “the time for excuses has passed.” It demanded that “action must be taken without further delay to salvage the situation before more lives are lost and the suffering of the people worsens.”
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no immediate public response from Senator Wadada or the Nasarawa State chapter of the APC.
