THE Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has confirmed a pipeline explosion near the Tebijor, Okpele and Ikpopo communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State.
The incident occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on 10 December 2025.
Preliminary assessments indicated a sudden pressure drop, suggesting a possible loss of containment on a pipeline operated by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC).
In a statement issued by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, Andy Odeh, the company noted that the exact cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, as investigations are ongoing.
NNPC Ltd emphasised that the safety of surrounding communities and environmental protection remain top priorities.
The company has activated its emergency response protocols and is working closely with relevant authorities and community leaders to mitigate the impact of the incident.
It added that it remains committed to upholding the highest safety and environmental standards and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
