Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

THE Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has declared a three-day mourning period in honour of seven journalists from Gombe State who lost their lives in a tragic road traffic accident.

The declaration followed an earlier statement by the National President of the Union, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, expressing profound shock and deep sorrow over the devastating incident.

In a follow-up message signed by the National Secretary, Mr Achike Chude, the Union urged its members across all zones, councils and chapels nationwide to continue their professional duties during the mourning period in the spirit of fraternity and solidarity.

According to the NUJ, the untimely death of the journalists represents a huge loss to the journalism profession, not only in Gombe State but across the country.

The deceased were described as committed media practitioners who served the public with courage, integrity and professionalism.

On behalf of the National Executive Council (NEC), the entire NUJ family and the Nigerian media community, the Union extended heartfelt condolences to the Gombe State Council of the NUJ, as well as the families, friends and colleagues of the departed journalists.
