THE Warri Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has extended warm felicitations to Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, on the occasion of his 55th birthday, describing him as a symbol of courage, resilience and commitment to the Niger Delta.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chapel Chairman, Akpokona Omafuaire, and Secretary, Edeki Igafe, the union said the milestone was not merely a celebration of age, but of a legacy that has significantly impacted peace, stability and development in the region.
“On this significant day, we do not merely celebrate the passage of time, but the enduring legacy of a man whose name has become synonymous with courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the peace, stability, and development of the Niger Delta region,” the statement read.
The NUJ noted that Tompolo’s life journey reflects that of a leader who has continually risen above challenges, turning adversity into opportunities for empowerment and progress.
“Your contributions to the advancement of security, economic growth, and community development in the Niger Delta remain indelible,” the union stated, adding that his influence has transcended generations.
The Chapel further commended his role in fostering unity and advocating justice for the people of the region, while acknowledging his contributions to national security.
“As watchdogs of society and partners in nation-building, we recognise and commend your strategic roles in promoting peace and safeguarding critical national assets. Your dedication to the stability of the region has strengthened national cohesion and reinforced confidence in sustainable development,” the statement added.
Joining family, friends and well-wishers worldwide in celebrating the ex-militant leader, the NUJ offered prayers for continued good health, wisdom and strength.
“We pray that the Almighty grants you good health, wisdom, and strength to carry on your invaluable service to humanity.
“May your years ahead be filled with greater accomplishments and enduring fulfilment,” the statement concluded.
Tompolo, a prominent figure in the Niger Delta, has remained influential in regional affairs, particularly in matters relating to security and economic interests.
The NUJ concluded by wishing him many happy returns, noting that his legacy would continue to resonate for years to come.
