FRSC, Lovebite Distribute Food to 1,000 Vulnerable Residents in Onitsha Outreach

THE Onitsha Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in collaboration with Lovebite Food and Beverages, on Friday reached out to no fewer than 1,000 less privileged residents, accident victims and tricycle operators across the city, distributing cooked rice, soft drinks and bottled water.

Speaking shortly before the presentation, the Onitsha Unit Commander, ACC Godwin Odoh, explained that the gesture was partly in appreciation of the personnel of the command for their commitment during the recent Christmas and New Year operations, which ensured the free flow of traffic in the commercial hub.

“Ordinarily, at the end of Operation Zero, we appreciate our officers for a job well done. The usual gridlock around the Niger Bridge often prevents the free movement of vehicles. However, last year we confronted the challenge head-on.

All our staff were deployed and they worked tirelessly, day and night,” Odoh said.
He noted that the end-of-year gathering, described as a first-quarter “dubar”, was organised in partnership with Chief Nwosu Innocent, Chief Executive Officer of Lovebite Food and Beverages.

“We decided it was necessary to appreciate our officers, and at the same time extend love to the vulnerable in society. We are sharing cooked rice, water and other items to demonstrate care and solidarity. We move around to personally distribute the items,” he added.

The Public Relations Officer of the Onitsha Unit Command, Kenechukwu Kingsley Chidoka, disclosed that about 1,000 beneficiaries, including tricycle operators and accident victims receiving treatment at Toronto Hospital, received the items.
“We appreciate the support of sponsors such as Lovebite and others in showing love to the vulnerable.

From what you can see, the beneficiaries are delighted with the gesture,” Chidoka stated.

In his remarks, the CEO of Lovebite Food and Beverages, Chief Nwosu Innocent, expressed satisfaction with the outreach, emphasising that love is best demonstrated through sharing. Represented by Mrs Nnenna Okoronkwo, he noted that Lovebite bread remains popular due to its quality.

Nwosu assured that the initiative would be sustained, stressing that the outreach was designed to give a sense of belonging to those who may feel marginalised in society.

Also speaking, the Manager of Toronto Hospital, Osy Mbelu, commended the Onitsha FRSC and Lovebite Food and Beverages for extending fellowship and support to accident victims, other patients and hospital staff.
