PASTOR Chris Okafor, the Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, publicly apologised to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala during a live Sunday service in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday, 28 December 2025.
The televangelist’s apology, which was widely shared on social media, saw him kneel before his congregation as he sought forgiveness for actions he described as mistakes from his past.
In his apology, Okafor acknowledged that he had made a lot of mistakes and asked for prayers, forgiveness and understanding from both his congregation and the wider public.
Addressing the controversy directly, he said: “Judge me, but pray for me and forgive me. I am ready to make restitution to any man, any lady that I have offended.”
The minister specifically mentioned actress Doris Ogala, saying: “To Doris Ogala, I also say sorry,” while reiterating his readiness to apologise to “everyone I have offended.”
He added that he was prepared to make amends and offer restitution where necessary.
Despite issuing the public apology, Pastor Okafor maintained that not all the allegations published against him were accurate.
“But everything that was said was not true. There were lies in most of them,” he said, while still expressing deep regret for any hurt his actions may have caused.
The apology followed intense public scrutiny and a series of social media exchanges after Ogala made serious claims concerning her relationship with the cleric.
It was reported that the actress had accused Okafor of ending their long-term relationship and failing to fulfil promises of marriage, claims that quickly gained traction online and sparked heated debate.
The controversy intensified in the days before the apology, with Ogala reportedly demanding that Okafor retract statements she characterised as defamatory and threatening to release further details of their dispute if her demands were not met.
Okafor’s public apology was delivered to a congregation that appeared emotionally moved by his gesture.
In the viral video of the service, he was seen kneeling before church members while seeking both forgiveness and prayer.
“I’m kneeling down before everyone and before the church,” the cleric said, emphasising his imperfections and human frailties.
The apology has drawn mixed reactions. Some members of the public praised Okafor’s humility in kneeling and asking for forgiveness.
Others, including Ogala herself, responded cautiously, with the actress saying she had forgiven him but disputing his assertion that her allegations were lies.
The legal dimension of the dispute has also been a focal point. Prior to the apology, Ogala filed a significant lawsuit against Okafor for breach of promise and other grievances, demanding compensation for emotional and reputational harm.
As the story continues to unfold, both in religious and entertainment circles, the public apology marks a significant moment in a saga that has captured national attention.
Observers note that it raises important questions about accountability, celebrity relationships and the responsibilities of religious leaders in the public eye.
