Police Chief Warns Officers: ‘No Room for Corruption or Misconduct’ in Anambra

By Micheal Chukwuebuka

AWKA – In a bid to prevent any “had I known” regrets, the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has issued a stern warning to officers and men under his watch: the Inspector-General of Police’s directive on zero tolerance for corruption and unprofessional conduct remains fully in force.

Speaking during a briefing with officers at the Command Headquarters in Awka on Wednesday, CP Orutugu stressed that the Nigeria Police Force belongs to all Nigerians and must remain accountable to the people.

He called for strict adherence to professional ethics, discipline, and respect for the rule of law in all duties. The CP made it clear that the Command would not tolerate any form of misconduct, including extortion, abuse of office, or any unprofessional behaviour capable of eroding public trust and confidence in the police.

“Any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action in line with extant regulations,” he warned.

CP Orutugu also reminded officers that the presidential order on the withdrawal of police personnel from unauthorised VIP protection duties remains in effect. He directed strict compliance and cautioned against the misuse of officers for private engagements not officially approved, adding that defaulters would be sanctioned accordingly.

The Commissioner further reiterated the importance of people-friendly policing, respect for human rights, and professionalism in security service delivery, aligning with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

In a press release signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property, while upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
