THE Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a stern warning to police inspectors due for promotion, cautioning them against contributing money to influence their advancement.
This comes as the Departmental Selection Board (DSB) interview for the promotion of senior Inspectors to the rank of unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP 2) is set to commence across the 17 Police Zonal Command Headquarters on Monday, 19 May 2025.
Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Hashimu Argungu, mni, disclosed that PSC staff would collaborate with Nigeria Police Force officers to conduct the interviews.
He strongly warned all candidates against offering financial inducements to Commission or Police officials, stressing that anyone found guilty would be sanctioned and publicly disgraced. “We will deal ruthlessly with any officer attempting to compromise the process,” Argungu said.
The Chairman acknowledged past practices where candidates allegedly pooled funds to influence supervising officials but vowed that such discreditable acts would no longer be tolerated.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to merit-based promotion, hinging advancement strictly on performance and available vacancies.
Argungu urged officers to prepare adequately for the interview panels and earn their promotions through competence, assuring the public of the Commission’s dedication to building a professional and capable Police Force.
The statement was signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, and dated Monday, 12 May 2025.
