Quick-Thinking Delsu Dean Lauded For Aiding Injured Student After Road Accident

A civil society group, the Initiative for Social Rights Concerns and Advancement (ISRCA), also known as “No Justice, No Peace”, has publicly expressed gratitude to the Dean of Student Affairs, Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Njoseh Ignatius Nkonyeasua, for his swift intervention after a student was injured in a road traffic accident.

The student, Master Terry Onotu, a 200-level student of the Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) Department, was reportedly struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle to school to sit an examination.

He is the son of Comrade Ufuoma S. Onotu, National Treasurer of ISRCA.

According to ISRCA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, the vehicle driver allegedly lost consciousness while at the wheel and, in confusion, pressed the accelerator instead of the brake when navigating a bad patch of road—resulting in the collision.

“Both the motorcyclist and Master Terry collapsed at the scene and were immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Abraka,” Comrade Agberen stated in a message sent to our correspondent in Warri.

He continued: “I promptly notified the Dean of Student Affairs, who mobilised the Director of Health and the university ambulance to the General Hospital.

“The student was later transferred to the School Health Centre, where he received stabilisation, treatment, and continues to receive proper care.”

Comrade Agberen commended the university authorities, saying: “Indeed, the students of Delta State University, Abraka, are in capable hands with the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of Student Affairs, and other administrative officials who are proactive and committed to student welfare.”

He further praised Professor Nkonyeasua for his personal involvement in the matter, noting that the Dean responded immediately upon being contacted that morning.

“At approximately 8:13 a.m., I received a call from my friend and brother, Comrade Ufuoma S. Onotu, informing me that his son had been involved in the accident.

“The Dean’s swift and compassionate response made all the difference.”
