ARMED assailants have kidnapped a retired customs officer following a violent incursion into the Osun State border community of Ora Igbomina in Ifedayo Local Government Area.
Sources indicate the gunmen struck at approximately 7:00 PM on Monday, forcefully entering the residence of Prince Emmanuel Owolabi.
After firing shots into the air, they abducted the retired officer from his home.
The attackers are then reported to have moved through the Akisa Road axis to a neighbouring community outside Osun State, where they allegedly killed the leader of the non-indigene community.
Subsequently, along the Oteere/Ila road, the group attempted to abduct travellers.
The travellers fled upon sensing danger, prompting the gunmen to open fire and injure several individuals.
Local security volunteers and vigilante groups are said to have attempted to repel the assault but were overwhelmed by the firepower of the kidnappers.
When contacted, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the abduction of the retired customs officer.
He stated, however, that the command had no records of any fatalities occurring within the Osun community during the incident.
An investigation is understood to be underway.
