Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting
PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the green light for the immediate reconstruction of three major road networks in Niger State, alongside an extension of the Bodo–Bonny Road in Rivers State.
The approved projects for Niger State include the reconstruction of the Mokwa–Bida Road (120km), the Mokwa–Makeri Road (63km), and the Bida–Labata Road (123.5km). Totalling 306.5 kilometres, all three routes will be rebuilt using reinforced concrete pavement, a method chosen to guarantee durability and long-term value for money.
In a statement released on Thursday by Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Works on Media, the President also approved the extension of the Bodo–Bonny Road to link up with the East–West Road. That project will be constructed as a dual carriageway, featuring concrete pavement and solar-powered street lighting, and will be awarded through a competitive bidding process.
Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has welcomed the approvals, noting that the roads lie within critical national economic corridors. He argued the developments will significantly boost connectivity, trade, and regional development.
The Minister called on Nigerians to recognise the administration’s continued focus on infrastructure delivery across all six geopolitical zones. He extended congratulations to the governors and residents of Niger and Rivers States, as well as all Nigerians who stand to benefit from the projects.
Umahi urged the public to maintain their support and prayers for the President as his administration remains committed to delivering democratic dividends to the people.
