THE Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is currently in its custody in connection with ongoing investigations.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the anti-corruption agency disclosed that El-Rufai remained in its custody at the close of work on 18 February 2026.
“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) writes to state that Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is in our custody as at close of work today, Wednesday, the 18th day of February, 2026. Malam Nasiru El-Rufai is in the custody of the Commission in connection with investigations,” the statement read.
The release was signed by J. Okor Odey, Head of Media and Public Communications at the ICPC.
However, the Commission did not disclose details of the investigations, the specific allegations being examined, or how long the former governor is expected to remain in custody.
The development follows increased scrutiny surrounding El-Rufai’s tenure in Kaduna State, with reports indicating that multiple anti-graft agencies are probing allegations of financial misconduct and other matters linked to his administration.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from El-Rufai or his legal representatives. The ICPC said further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
