We’re Being Disenfranchised, Warri Residents Cry Out

IN spite of the rescheduled election exercise for three wards in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, electorate say INEC officials are yet to move in with materials to vote.

As of 4:58p.m during the filing of the report, no INEC officials has arrived at Polling Units 14, 15, 16 at Bowen Ward in Agbassa, Warri South Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking on the yet another delay in supply of voting materials, a voter said, “we suppose vote yesterday but we no vote because we no see INEC officials. Na around 6:30 I take comot yesterday.

Empty voting unit as of 4pm on Sunday

“I live at London Opi but I had to come to this polling Bowen Ward Unit 014, 015 and 016 but I couldn’t vote. After leaving here late yesterday, I was told that INEC officials came but they were chased away.

“I was told that the units where the elections couldn’t take were supposed to vote today.

“I have been here since morning, but there’s no sign that election will take place here, where unit 14 and 16 was supposed to be but there’s no sign of voters or INEC officials where unit 16 supposed to be.”

Another voter, who gave her name as Rejoice Okome who is in Unit 15 and a resident of Agbassa community, said that though she heard that voting will continue today because election did not take place yesterday, no sign of election in her unit.

INEC had rescheduled voting for Sunday in some parts of Nigeria including Delta State over late or non-distribution of materials to polling units on Saturday.

The hordes of disenfranchised electorate took to the streets on Saturday to call on INEC to reschedule the exercise which the umpire graciously granted to commence at 8:00a.m.

INEC’s acting Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Bukola Ojeme, told journalists Sunday afternoon that the make-up election will hold in three wards in Warri South.

1. (RA01) 008; 009; 012; 015.

2. ( RA 04) 30( All PUs)

3. ( RA05) 005; 009; 010; 011; 015; 028; 029.

4. ( RA06) 016.

5. ( RA07) 25( All PUs)

6. ( RA09) PU 46( All PUs)

7. ( RA011) 005; 006; 007; 011; 012; 013; 027,” he noted on Sunday afternoon.
