THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, setting key dates for primaries, campaigns, and the main polls.
According to the schedule, political parties will conduct their primaries and nominate candidates over a five-week period, running from April 23, 2026, to May 30, 2026.
The commission has scheduled the Presidential and National Assembly elections to hold on Saturday, January 16, 2027.

The revised timetable
This will be followed by the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on Saturday, February 6, 2027.
In line with the electoral timeline, INEC also outlined the official campaign periods. Campaigning for presidential and national assembly candidates will commence on August 19, 2026, and conclude on January 15, 2027, a day before the national polls.
For governorship and state assembly contenders, the campaign window opens on September 9, 2026, and ends on February 5, 2027.
Political parties and aspirants are advised to adhere strictly to the timelines as the commission ramps up preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle.
