Why I Deserve To Be Mocked – Adeboye

Ola ‘Kiya, Reporting

GENERAL Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, says he deserved to be mocked by his mockers being a mere mortal of a lesser rank among the saints.

Adeboye made the statement Saturday morning during the April Holy Ghost Service themed “Shielded By Fire,” specially designed for children of the RCCG mission.

He urged his congregation not to be offended by those mocking him saying, “When some people are mocking, when they’re laughing, let them laugh o. What did I say? Let them laugh. Just remember one thing – only one thing – he who laughs last, laughs the best.”

The octogenarian had ended his sermon, anointed the children before he requested the mammoth gathering at the twin auditoriums in the Redemption City a brief moment to address some issues.

Recall that Pastor Adeboye has become the toast of social media creators and trollers in recent times with concocted videos laced with lies, misinterpretations, misrepresentations amid mockeries of his preaching and activities in RCCG.

He went ahead to address some burning issues which included the purported insensitive 60th birthday bash for Pastor Mrs Siju Iluyomade barely days after the gruesome death of Dr Herbert Wigwe, his wife and son in a chopper crash in the USA.

Adeboye also touched on the Nigerian economy vis a vis what God told him early in the year, the gang-up and negative utterances against RCCG, and the fact that Nigeria needs God’s mercy to pull through its security and economic challenges, among others.

Excerpts:

I’m a stupid boy

In Ephesians 3:8, if Paul said he’s less than the least of the saints, were talking about somebody wrote practically one third of the New Testament, who then is Adeboye?

If Paul is less than the least of the saints, the conclusion is clear. Pastor Adeboye is nothing! However, His God is everything. Listen to me carefully.

Adeboye is one stupid boy. I’ll prove it to you before I close. But His God, His God is wiser than the wisest. Adeboye is weak. Believe it or not, he eats pounded yam, he goes to the toilet. But his God is stronger than the strongest. Adeboye is nothing, but his God is the All-Sufficient God.

So there’s nothing spectacular, there’s no big deal if you mock Pastor Adeboye. He deserves to be mocked. The word of God made it abundantly clear that anyone that God will choose must be foolish, must be weak, must be a nobody so that only God will get the glory. Can I hear amen to that.

It’s ok to mock me

So, it’s ok to mock Pastor Adeboye. Just make sure you don’t mock his God. Why? Because Adeboye is nothing and there’s nothing he can do to you. But his God is the Consuming Fire.

Posers to congregation & answers

Now I’m going to ask you some questions and by now you know this is serious. The fact that the leader of Boko Haram is a Muslim or claims to be a Muslim, does that mean every Muslim is a terrorist? No! Because one Islamic cleric said they should kill our first lady, does that mean every Imam is a murderer?

There’s this fellow called Hushpuppy or something like that, the original 419 arrested in Dubai or so and he happens to be a Nigerian, does that make every Nigerian a 419 person? No!

If a pastor and his wife do something insensitive, does that mean every pastor everywhere are insensitive? Answer me. No!!! I’m happy you answered those questions correctly.

But you can also say what about this pastor somewhere in the island they said committed all manner of atrocities and he’s a pastor of RCCG, how do you explain that? Number one, the way they reported here is different from the way they reported it there. Over there they said a former pastor , what does that mean? It means he used to be. They didn’t tell you the whole story o. They didn’t tell you that they didn’t catch that boy. He reported himself. Why did he report himself? He heard a sermon on restitution and decided it is better to suffer shame on earth than to go to hell. And where did he hear that sermon? In the RCCG of course. We’re among the few churches in the world that every teach on restitution. He said he’d better to prison here on earth than to go hell because prison here is for a while, hell will be forever.

Let him that stands …

Eh but he was ordained a pastor now? That’s true. Have you ever heard of something called backsliding? That once upon a time somebody was hot for the Lord and somewhere along the line he became cold? Do you know that the Bible says he who thinks he stands should take heed lest he falls? It means even you standing today should be careful….I pray you’ll never fall. I don’t want to dwell more on that. I don’t want to give you the impression that I’m justifying the unjustifiable. I’ll have said the Lord prayed all night and chose 12 disciples and one of them turned out to be Judas Iscariot. One failure out of 12. If we consider that the number of pastors in RCCG in Nigeria alone (don’t let me tell you the number, let me tell you mathematically) is more than 200,000. So if we find one here, one over there, well our Lord Jesus Christ we follow chose 12 and one was a devil…but that’s not the point.

I sympathize with those mocking me

When some people are mocking, when they’re laughing, let them laugh o. What did I say? Let them laugh. Just remember one thing – only one thing- he who laughs last, last the best. I have said it before that Adeboye was so rotten that if I were Jesus, I wouldn’t have saved him. But some how, one thing about God that you’ll never understand until we get to heaven is how He can love somebody like me. So if people are laughing I can sympathize with them. It’s just that He has this special love this boy as stupid as he is.

When in 1981, I asked him ( I was living in one in mushin then) to build me a boys quarter, and he said “son don’t ask me to build a boys quarter, I’ve decided to build you a city.” I told my friends and they laughed at me. Because it didn’t make sense, but today they’re not laughing at me anymore. I decree you’ll laugh last.

You can know about God without knowing Him

So when you hear some people
who are very clever and they know Greek, they know Hebrew, just note that it is possible to know about God without knowing God! That’s important. If only read John 21. Read the story. You’ll discover that after Jesus rose from the dead, he ate bread, he ate fish with His disciples. And I don’t know what they drank the day O, but whatever the disciples drank, Jesus drank too. Is that correct. All those are minor things. Don’t mind them.

The mistake I made in January

The important thing is this why I said we’re going to pray. I must really be a stupid boy. At the beginning of the year, when I was asking Daddy how with this year be. And we got to Nigeria and He said things will get worse before they’ll get better. I think I told you that and I took that as a message of hope. Means things will get better after they get worse. But if I was such a stupid boy, I should have asked Him how worst will things get before getting better. I didn’t ask so you see how stupid a boy I am.

Until all of a sudden we saw the way things are going. We saw naira going down rapidly. We never thought naira will get to a thousand to a dollar. Nobody should think like that. And we were going rapidly to N2,000 and I know nations that we got independence together and today there money is more than 10,000 to a pound. Ha! Where are we going? That’s when I suddenly realised, stupid boy, then I quickly called together great prayer warriors and we began to cry to God. Well thank God the dollar is … Things are getting better.

Why we must pray

But the reason why I said we have to pray – you know I’ve been in the prayer room – and when you are there you don’t read newspapers. As I was coming out of the prayer room, then I heard that government has increased the price of fuel and electricity….if the fuel price is increased, it means the cost of transporting food from the farm will increase and the food price will also increase.

So I have this feeling, I just thought that the way these things are happening is no longer natural as the elders would say in Yoruba. And then I heard that a prophet has prophesied that things will only get better towards the end of 2025, I said hey! Noo!!! How many of you will want things to be like that? When do you want things to change? End of the year? Middle of next year? Then pray that God should have us.
