Wike Vows Kingibe Will Not Return as FCT Senator, Questions Her Performance

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has doubled down on his assertion that Senator Ireti Kingibe will not represent the FCT in the National Assembly again, insisting that public officials must be held accountable for their performance.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on March 2, 2026, Wike maintained his firm position, stressing that measurable results should be the benchmark for political leadership.

“Senator Ireti Kingibe won’t come back as senator of the FCT, and I still stand by it,” he declared bluntly.

When asked about claims from the senator that she had made unsuccessful attempts to contact him, Wike refuted the allegation entirely. “I don’t even know her number. I’m not the man who pretends. I don’t pretend,” he said. “Mark it today, March 2. My report card will show. Your report card should also show. What did you do as a senator when you were?”

The FCT minister stressed that genuine collaboration in governance must be founded on tangible outcomes rather than sentiment. “If I’m a senator, make sure you do well. We shouldn’t be taking ideas for granted,” he added.

Wike maintained that leadership should be assessed by its concrete impact on communities, particularly in the satellite towns across the FCT, where he argued residents deserve to see and experience visible government presence.

His latest remarks signal a deepening rift between the minister and the FCT lawmaker as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of future elections.
