DESCRIBING the just-concluded Youths Sports Festival held in Asaba as shambolic, the Concerned Sports Lovers In Delta State (CSLDS) has called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to restructure and reorganise the state’s Sports Commission for effectiveness.
The group, therefore, called on Oborevwori to appoint individuals who are capable of making the commission an enterprising, employment and income-generating organ.
The group, which frowned at those it considered using the commission as a meal ticket, admonished the governor to checkmate their greed and perpetual successive plans.
It further averred that notwithstanding the fact that the governor provided all that was required for a successful youth games, the officials dropped the ball.
“Notwithstanding the fact that His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori providing all that was required for successful games, the officials of the Delta State Sports Commission, once again, has failed to live up to expectations in the organisation of the just-concluded National Youths Games-Asaba 2023.
“The National Youths Games-Asaba 2023 has come and gone. The gains and failures of what happened were there for everyone to see; thus, we the Concerned Sports Lovers In Delta State feels it is time for us to make our honest suggestions to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State regarding the need to make the appropriate changes in the way that the Delta State Sports Commission is managed and quality of people that are to be appointed as officials of the commission going forward.
“It is now on record that a set of individuals in the state have arrogated to themselves the right to be appointed or to nominate amongst themselves who to be appointed as Chairman and Board members of the Commission in order to continue their unrewarding shinaningan in the promotion of their selfish interest and greed in the management of the Commission.
“As a group of interested persons in Delta State, we are not unaware of the present moves and attempts of this set of selfish individuals to misdirect our hard-working and focused governor in continuing the same line of appointing their chosen cronies as the next Chairman and Board members of the Commission.
“We have no doubt that the governor, being a man of integrity and pragmatic, grass rooted politician and administrator will see through their veil of greed and selfishness to be able to tell them that enough of their “let us keep it in the family syndrome” in order to move the sports sector in a new and more productive direction.
“The sports sector in every country is a big business, we therefore appeal to our governor to consider and appoint individuals that are capable of making the Commission an enterprising, employment and income generating organ in this administration.
“We want those individuals who are determined to use the Delta State Sports Commission as their meal ticket to know that this governor is not for their taking and cannot be misguided in continuing doing the wrong thing and expecting a different result.
“This governor will do the needful for the good of the state’s sports sector for the interest of Delta State,” the group, in the statement made available to Stonix News on Sunday, averred.
