JUNE 12: Release #EndSARS Prisoners Now – Shehu Sani Tells Tinubu

A former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, says President Bola Tinubu should release those incarcerated over the #EndSARS protest that rocked Nigeria in 2020.

Stonix News reports that some Nigerian youths in 2020 took to the streets to protest against police brutality and the hardship in the country.

But in the wake of the protest, some police stations, formations, and officers were damaged and killed across the country, leading to some arrests.

While some of the arrested protesters were released, others have been left to continue to languish in various police stations.

Speaking at the 5th Democracy Day Dinner held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Sani said those who took part in the protest should also be considered champions of democracy.

Senator Sani noted that he and other of his peers, who were part of the fight to entrench democracy in Nigeria and the ENDSARS protesters learnt from President Tinubu to be dogged.

“Mr President, there are some people who are still in detention as a result of the #EndSARS protest, there are young people who were protesting for justice, freedom and for democracy.

”Any young protestant in Nigeria today learnt from you because you were the founder of protest in Nigeria. Do something about it, give them the freedom.

”You taught us; you funded us to stand up and fight. So, they are your children and your grandchildren. Give them the pardon,” he urged.

Sani also told the president not to be carried away by the showers of encomiums, saying Nigerians are passing through real hard times.

According to him, if President Tinubu failed, all pro-democracy activists, who fought for the revalidation of June 12 mandate given to late MKO Abiola, would have been deemed failures.
