COVID-19 Resurgence: University of Ghana Issues Health Alert

The University of Ghana’s Health Services Directorate has raised an alert following a resurgence of COVID-19 cases within the university community, urging staff, students, and visitors to remain vigilant and comply strictly with safety guidelines.

According to a statement sighted by Daily Guide Online, several suspected and confirmed cases have been reported in the immediate vicinity, prompting the reactivation of the university’s COVID-19 Response Protocols.

“In light of this development, the Health Services Directorate is urging all staff, students, and visitors to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to recommended preventive measures to mitigate the risk of infection and community spread,” the statement read.

The Directorate outlined key preventive measures including the proper wearing of face masks, particularly in enclosed or crowded areas; frequent handwashing with soap under running water or the use of alcohol-based sanitisers; maintaining a physical distance of at least one metre; and avoiding large gatherings unless absolutely necessary.

Staff and students were also advised to ensure adequate ventilation in offices, lecture halls, and meeting rooms.

Those experiencing flu-like symptoms are encouraged to stay at home and seek immediate medical attention.

“In response to the resurgence, the Health Services Directorate has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols, which include screening and triage measures at health facilities.

“The situation is being closely monitored, and regular updates will be provided to the university community,” the statement added.

The Directorate appealed to the university populace to cooperate fully and remain cautious, stressing the importance of collective action in navigating this renewed public health challenge.
