THE Bashir Foundation for Fistula and Women’s Health has offered free surgery for women suffering from fistula, a condition that causes leakage of urine or faeces after childbirth.
The foundation, in a public notice posted on their social media pages, called on affected women and those who know anyone experiencing such symptoms to seek medical help, assuring that the condition can be treated.
It identified common signs of the condition to include leaking urine or faeces after childbirth, inability to control urine or faeces, and constant wetness.
The notice also pointed out that women living with the condition often feel ashamed or avoid social interaction due to the discomfort associated with it.
According to the foundation, free treatment is available for women diagnosed with fistula, including access to surgery and comprehensive care.
The intervention will be carried out in selected health facilities, including Gwarinpa General Hospital in Abuja and the VVF Centre in Gusau, Zamfara State.
Other centres listed are the General Hospital in Numan, Adamawa State, and Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna State.
The foundation stated that beneficiaries will receive fistula repair surgery aimed at correcting the condition.
It added that the programme also covers medical care, medications, hospital stay and accommodation, feeding support, and post-surgery follow-up.
The organisation further noted that transportation will be provided free of charge and urged interested individuals to call or send a WhatsApp message to 0810 095 7171 for guidance on accessing the services.
