LIVERPOOL head coach Arne Slot has called on his team to remain focused and continue improving despite back-to-back wins over Athletic Club in their final pre-season friendlies at Anfield.

The Reds, on Monday, August 4, secured a 4-1 victory in the first leg and followed it up with a 3-2 win in the second, rounding off their preparations for the upcoming season on a high note.
Speaking after the match, Slot commended his players for their performances but emphasized the need for consistent progress.

“There’s always room for improvement in every area,” he said. “I think we’ve added a few more weapons. Florian brings creativity, but we’ve also lost some with Trent [Alexander-Arnold] unavailable.”
Slot acknowledged the team’s growing strength, particularly in attack, but warned that rivals were also strengthening ahead of the new campaign.
“You always have to make the next step. Our rivals are not standing still—they’ve improved their squads just like us.”

Looking ahead to their Premier League opener against Bournemouth on August 15, Slot played down concerns over the potential absence of striker Alexander Isak.
“With players like Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, and Cody Gakpo, there’s plenty of strength to draw on even without Isak,” he said.

However, the Dutchman admitted that central defence remains a weak spot for Liverpool and an area that still requires attention before the season gets underway.
