FORMER Super Eagles defender, Sam Sodje, has paid a heartbreaking tribute to his late friend and former national camp roommate, Mike Enaromo, describing his passing as a deeply personal loss.
In an emotional statement made available to Stonix News, Sodje revealed that the pair had spoken just two days before Enaromo’s death, and had been making plans to meet up in Abuja.
“Today, I painfully mourn my friend, my national camp room mate. What a life,” Sodje said. “We spoke just two days before your passing, planning to meet in Abuja to have our usual fun, reminiscing about our days together at the national camp with the Super Eagles.”
Sodje, who earned caps for Nigeria, shared a poignant memory of their time together in Tunisia, during the country’s run at the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I can’t forget our very special day in Tunisia after our game in the capital, Tunis, where I saw first hand the prestige and love that you enjoy in that country,” he recalled. “Truly, my heart bleeds in total pains just to think that we will never meet again on this part of the world.”
The former defender, visibly struggling with the loss, spoke of Enaromo’s character beyond football, praising his kindness and humanity.
“Until we meet to part no more, I pray God to grant your soul peace in His bosom because you truly deserve same for your kindness, friendship and your love for the good of mankind.”
Sodje added: “I speak from the heart while others will speak in respect of your contributions to the pleasure, excitement and happiness that you gave to the lovers of the beautiful game during your days as a member of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.”
Signing off, Sodje paid one final tribute to his friend’s well-known nickname.
“Rest in peace forever my brother, ‘The Tank’ — till we meet on the other side of life. The light for you is gone but my love and regards for you remain forever.”
Stonix News reports that Mike Enaromo, a former Nigerian international and fan favourite, passed away recently, leaving the Nigerian football community in mourning.
Tributes have continued to pour in for the man described by many as a gentle giant and a dedicated servant of the game.
