PDP At Crossroads: Nwuche Urges Unity Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

ABUJA — Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, has called for urgent reconciliation within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), warning that continued division could undermine the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking after the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday in Abuja, Nwuche appealed to aggrieved leaders and members to set aside their differences and embrace peace in the interest of unity and progress.

The meeting, chaired under the leadership of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, drew a broad spectrum of party stakeholders, including senators, members of the House of Representatives, former governors, ministers and party executives at both national and state levels.

Nwuche stressed that unity remains the PDP’s greatest strength, urging estranged governors and party stalwarts to “bury the hatchet” and commit to sincere reconciliation.

He cautioned that internal divisions and prolonged legal disputes were weakening the party’s cohesion at a critical time.

Referring to a recent Court of Appeal ruling, he advised the executive committee that emerged from the Ibadan convention, led by Kabiru Turaki, to desist from further litigation over already settled matters.

“Enough of division, enough of court cases,” Nwuche said. “This is the time to close ranks and forge a united front as we prepare for the 2027 elections.”

He also extended his appeal to the Board of Trustees (BoT), headed by Adolphus Wabara, urging its leadership to prioritise peace and cohesion within the party.

According to him, ongoing polarisation is counterproductive and threatens the PDP’s stability and electoral viability.

Looking ahead, Nwuche described the upcoming PDP National Convention scheduled for this weekend in Abuja as a critical opportunity to mend divisions and chart a unified path forward.

He called on delegates to treat the gathering as more than a routine exercise, but as a defining moment for consensus-building and renewed commitment.

“The future of our party depends on what we choose to do now,” he said, emphasising that reconciliation must be deliberate, inclusive and guided by a shared vision.

Nwuche concluded by urging all party members to embrace dialogue and collective responsibility, noting that only a united PDP can effectively position itself as a credible alternative capable of meeting the aspirations of Nigerians.
